As according to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Marseille’s right-back Pol Lirola (25) is set to move on loan to up-and-coming Italian side Monza.
Lirola is currently on loan at La Liga side Elche CF. However, according to Romano, he looks set to be recalled from this loan and move to the Serie A side, who currently sit 15th in the Italian top flight. The 25-year-old defender has prior experience in Italy, having already spent time at Juventus, Sassuolo, and Fiorentina. The Spaniard has one goal and 14 assists across 128 appearances in Serie A.
Lirola’s loan to Elche CF included a mandatory buy option, which Marseille will renegotiate with the Italians on his arrival in Lombardy. Per Gianluca DiMarzio, Les Phocéens want a higher fee than Monza are willing to pay.
Monza, owned by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, are enjoying their first taste of top-flight football this season, having spent the last decade moving up from Serie C and Serie B.
