Montpellier are set to complete the return of former goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte (31), according to a report from France Bleu Hérault.

The French international shot-stopper already played two seasons with the Occitanie side, between 2017 and 2019. He then signed a five-year deal with AS Monaco but he spent only two seasons with Les Monégasques before being loaned to La Liga sides. Since 2021, Lecomte has struggled for game time, firstly at Atlético Madrid where he was Jan Oblak’s understudy, and at RCD Espanyol since last summer. Lecomte has only played ten games with the Blanquiazules.

With fellow countrymen Hugo Lloris and Steve Mandanda announcing their international retirement, Lecomte knows he has to be a starter if he wants to throw his hat into the French national team ring. With Swiss keeper Jonas Omlin leaving to replace Bayern-bound Jan Sommer at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Montpellier quickly made contact with Lecomte who agreed personal terms with Ligue 1’s struggling fifteenth-placed side. Lecomte is reportedly undergoing his medical this Thursday morning.
