The fallout from Montpellier HSC’s relegation to Ligue 2 looks to continue with an offer arriving from Turkey for centre-back Modibo Sagnan (26). The drop down into the second tier of French football has caused speculation around the futures of most of the players at La Paillade.
A situation that was not helped by the club president near the end of last season saying, “There are people whose history with the club is over, no matter what. We’re going to start again on a healthy basis with healthy people, people who want to fight for their club and not people who are just here for their own sake.”
Sagnan, who made 27 appearances in the ill-fated campaign (and even managed to pitch in two goals), looks to be the latest to be targeted by clubs looking for a deal. According to Foot Mercato, Montpellier have received an offer from Çaykur Rizespor.
However, it remains to be seen whether La Paillade will accept this offer and allow one of their better players leave. Sagnan has a contract running until 2028 and could prove important in the club’s attempt to return to Ligue 1 at the first time of asking.
