Le10sport are reporting that managerless Montpellier are interested in former FC Metz head coach Frédéric Antonetti, who has been without a job since the end of last season.

Olivier Dall’Oglio was sacked as Montpellier manager in mid-October and replaced by interim manager Romain Pitau. However, the former midfielder is not expected to be named as the club’s new manager on a permanent basis. The club will instead look to make an external appointment during the World Cup break.

Former Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi has previously been linked with the role by Le10sport, however, the club aren’t unanimous on his appointment. Consequently, alternatives are being sounded out. Antonetti, who has been clubless since getting related to Ligue 2 with Metz last season, is now in discussions with Montpellier.

Whilst nothing is yet agreed upon between the two parties, negotiations are at an advanced stage. Antonetti, who has almost 25 years of experience in Ligue 1, could now be set for a return to France’s top flight.
