According to a report from RMC Sport, Montpellier HSC are close to acquiring the signature of Moroccan international Yahia Attiyat Allah from Casablanca’s Wydad AC.
Attiyat Allah, who plays as either a left-back or left-winger, impressed in Morocco’s dazzling Qatar 2022 World Cup campaign, in which he played six of their seven games. Crucially, he provided the assist for Youssef En-Nesyri’s headed goal in the quarter-finals against Portugal, from which they progressed as 1-0 winners to face France in the semi-final.
Ligue 1’s Montpellier are now close to securing the 27-year-old’s signature, and will hope that his potential arrival can bring about their revival. They currently sit 15th in the French top flight, on a string of three consecutive defeats. Their upcoming fixtures involve their close competitors at the lower end of the league: AJ Auxerre (19th), RC Strasbourg (16th), Stade Brestois (17th), and ESTAC Troyes (14th).
Stade Brestois and RSC Anderlecht are also interested in the Moroccan, as well as another foreign club. Attiyat Allah would prefer a move to Ligue 1, however, and Montpellier are frontrunners to sign him. After a first offer had been rejected, La Paillade will need to meet Wydad’s €700,000 evaluation to secure his services.
