Riccardo Montolivo, the former captain of AC Milan, is currently one of the pundits for DAZN and he has thus been talking about the Serie A a lot this season. Of course, he has had some stuff to say about the Rossoneri.

Most recently, the former midfielder was asked about the contract situation of Franck Kessie. The Ivorian’s deal with Milan will expire next summer and there is no agreement in sight just yet, making a renewal complicated.

Speaking live on DAZN, as cited by MilanNews, Montolivo insisted that Milan are handling the situation in the best way possible. He compared it to Lorenzo Insigne at Napoli and explained that it’s better than how he was handled.

“Insigne and Napoli? It seems to me that it’s a situation similar to Kessie: the managers and clubs send water to the fire, they don’t create problems like what happened to me. Pioli and Spalletti are trying to think about the common good. The contract is in the background and this is the best way to go,” he stated.

Indeed, towards the end of his career with Milan, Montolivo barely got any playing and it wasn’t pretty. He ended up retiring after his Rossoneri spell as well and it didn’t give the club the best look.
