Monaco’s Wilfried Singo dreams of Premier League move

Wilfried Singo (23) has enjoyed an excellent debut season at AS Monaco. His arrival was overshadowed by the signings of bigger, more renowned names such as Denis Zakaria and Folarin Balogun. Singo has not only been Monaco’s signing of the season, he is arguably the best Ligue 1 signing too.

Having arrived from Torino as something of an unknown quantity, Singo quickly established himself as a go-to option for Monaco manager Adi Hütter. His impressive performances earned him a place in the Ivory Coast squad at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which he ultimately won.

Singo looking to follow in his compatriots’ footsteps

Since his return from AFCON, Singo has continued to impress. Whilst his focus remains on helping Les Monégasques qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League, Singo has revealed that his dream is to follow in the footsteps of some of his compatriots.

“I watched [the Premier League] when I was small, the big teams in the Premier League. We followed Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba. They inspired me a lot. It’s a great league and I hope, one day, I can participate in it,” he told The Athletic in an exclusive interview. His performances this season will certainly have caught the eyes of clubs the other side of the Channel.
