Monaco have completed the signing of 16-year-old Italian sensation Pietro Pellegri from Genoa for a fee reported to be in the region of €25 million.

The Italy U-19 international has so far made just nine senior appearances at club level and joins the Ligue 1 champions on a five-year contract.

“I am very happy to join AS Monaco and I was very soon convinced of the project that allows young people like me to progress and flourish in the future,” Pellegri told Monaco’s official website.

“I will work hard to become an important player of the club in the future.”

Last season, Pellegri became the youngest player to appear in Serie A aged 15 years and 280 days. In June, he scored his first professional goal against Roma and his tally so far stands at three goals.

Juventus were also rumoured to be interested in signing the teenager but he will instead join Les Monégasques where he is expected to become an immediate part of Leonardo Jardim’s first-team plans.

“We are very pleased to welcome Pietro to AS Monaco, a very young player who already has the experience of Serie A,” said Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev.

“He has great qualities, great potential and we are convinced that with the time and a lot of work here, he will become an important player.

“This is further proof that our work in recent seasons, the results and the players who have emerged in our jersey are attracting the greatest talents of European football.”
