Jonathan Rowe is thought to be attracting more interest from France, providing Leeds United with more competition in this race.

Ligue 1 outfit Monaco have joined the race for Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe, according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna.

Foot Mercato's Aouna believes talks have already taken place between the French club and the player's representatives regarding a potential switch, as they weigh up a move for the England youth international.

Rowe has been the subject of plenty of interest during the summer transfer window - and that's unsurprising considering the 21-year-old was a real asset for the Canaries in the final third last season.

They lost out to the Whites in the end, but Daniel Farke's side ended up losing the play-off final.

That hasn't prevented Leeds from taking an interest in him though, with the Whites making more than enough summer sales to give them the funds to pursue a deal for the wide player, who could potentially leave Carrow Road before the end of the summer transfer window.

However, it's unclear whether the club will be able to secure an agreement for one of their league rival's most crucial players, with the Canaries potentially counting on Rowe following Gabriel Sara's departure.

However, Rowe didn't feature against Oxford United last weekend and was left out of the matchday squad, which has only gone on to fuel speculation about his future.

Marseille could potentially pull out of the race for the player, but other teams could end up submitting bids for him in the coming weeks.

The French side are thought to have added Rowe to their "list of options", as they consider a move for Rowe.

Discussions between the club and the player's representatives are already thought to have taken place, ahead of a potential approach for the 21-year-old.

However, there are a couple of barriers in this race for Monaco.

The club needs to sell or loan out a non-EU player before being able to move for Rowe, who is also a non-EU player following the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union.

With Marseille's move for the player stalling, this could allow their French rivals to secure a deal for the Norwich man, but there are hurdles for them to overcome too.

Norwich City can't let Jonathan Rowe saga drag on

Rowe needs to see his saga come to an end as quickly as possible, both for the sake of the player and the Canaries.

The player won't be able to perform at his best whilst there's so much noise about his future.

And the Canaries, who have already lost Sara and look set to sell Adam Idah, will suffer if they don't have an in-form Rowe on the pitch.

His absence certainly didn't help the Canaries' cause last Saturday against Oxford.
