Monaco are through to the Coupe de France quarter-finals after seeing off fellow Ligue 1 Uber Eats side Metz after a penalty shoot-out on Tuesday.

Monaco had swept aside Metz 4-0 in top-flight action on Saturday, but neither side was able to make the breakthrough in the 90 minutes at the Stade Louis II.

Metz goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja — returning after a four-game ban — made a number of saves while Stevan Jovetic saw a shot deflected onto the crossbar, but the Montenegro international swept home the decisive spot-kick as Niko Kovac's men joined holders Paris Saint-Germain in the next round.

Two more Ligue 1 sides, Montpellier and Angers, are in action on Wednesday with both facing fourth-tier opponents in the Voltigeurs de Chateaubriant and Sedan respectively. Lyon — the last of the five top-flight teams in the competition — bring the curtain down on the Last 16 against Red Star on Thursday.
