L’Équipe, RMC Sport and Foot Mercato are all reporting that Philippe Clement is set to be sacked as manager of AS Monaco after a disappointing end to the season saw them miss out on European football for next season.

According to Foot Mercato’s Sébasiten Denis, Monaco’s outgoing Sporting Director Paul Mitchell informed Clement a few hours ago that he would not be continuing in his role. Clement arrived at Monaco in January 2022, replacing Niko Kovac. He guided Les Monégasques to the Champions League play-offs last season but didn’t manage to get them into the group stages.

The Principality club did look on course for another European qualification, but a dramatic dip in form, which saw them win just one of their last seven games, meant they finished sixth in Ligue 1, and outside of the European qualification places entirely.

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against FC Toulouse, Clement said he was still fighting for the club, but admitted that “it was up to the management.”

That decision now looks to have been taken. Clement’s departure from Monaco looks set to be confirmed imminently. L’Équipe have cited two names as potential targets for Monaco. Thiago Scuro, who is set to replace Mitchell this summer, has collaborated with the Englishman, and have already targeted Red Bull Salzburg’s Matthias Jaissle, whilst former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch is also a name being linked with the soon-to-be vacant role, Get French Football News can confirm that both are in the running for the job.
