Club Brugge will face Molde FK in the next round of the Europa Conference League. The side from Norway beat Legia Warsaw 6-2 on aggregate with an impressive 3-0 win away from home. The first leg will take place on the 7th of March in Norway, with the return leg in Brugge the following week.
Club Brugge will certainly fancy their chances against the Eliteserien side, despite their impressive performance in the Round of 32. During the group stages Club Brugge beat fellow Norwegian champions FK Bodø/Glimt both home and away, so should be confident in facing Molde.
For the Belgian this competition could be their best chance to reach a first European final since 1978. That was in the European Cup, the prelude to the current Champions League. During their run to the final, they beat Finnish side KuPS, Panathinaikos, Atlético Madrid and Juventus. In the final they face Liverpool, with Kenny Dalglish scoring the only goal of the game at Wembley. Their top scorer during that competition was Roger Davies, who they signed for £135,000 from Derby County. Davies scored four goals in the competition and won the Belgium Player of the Year in 1977. He never made the final however, returning to England and joining Leicester City in December of 1977.
While by no means the favourites to lift the trophy, of the sides left in the competition Club Brugge are certainly one of the strongest. Firstly they need to take care of business against Molde.
