Chelsea were well beaten by Flamengo last night. Everyone will put a lot of blame on the Nicolas Jackson red card, and that certainly killed our chances of coming back, but we were already losing at that point.
In fact the Brazilians had outplayed us all game. Even our goal was on the counter attack and very opportunistic. In terms of the flow of the game, Filipe Luis’ side had the better of us pretty much throughout.

One player who can hold his head high – as per usual – is Moises Caicedo. The midfielder battled dutifully but was overrun by the superior tactical setup of the opposition. Speaking to the club’s official website after the game, Caicedo made it very clear he wasn’t happy with the result.
“You need to be focused for the full game because one second you switch off, then that’s what can happen, Caicedo explained after the game in Philadelphia.
“We need to react. We are now focused on the next game. It will be a tough game, but we will prepare from tomorrow,” the midfielder said, looking ahead to a game against ES Tunis which Chelsea only need a draw in to qualify now thanks to the African side’s win over LAFC last night.
“In the second half, [Flamengo] were better, they pressed better and we found some space, but for sure it was complicated.
“The team was playing well, but you need to be focused for 95 minutes. Otherwise, in one second, you can lose the game. That is what happened. It was a difficult game, but we are focused on the next game and we need to win the next game [to make sure we go through]. But today was tough.”
Having played two 90 minutes in a row, Caicedo will surely have to be rested for that game.
