Luka Modrić addressed the media on the eve of the Champions League Matchday 3 encounter against Shakhtar Donetsk (Tuesday, 9pm CET) and had the following to say: “It's a really important game,  particularly as we lost our last game at home. There's no room for any slip-ups from us. We have to go out there like a Real Madrid team, with confidence and strength. We haven't been at our best in our last three games, but the international break came at a good time for us. We're ready and are going to put in a good performance”.

“We're keen to put in a good performance and win the game, which would be important. We face strong opponents and they have shown that in recent games. We’ll be in for a tough game”.

Comparisons “I’m not one for comparisons. I think that Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets did a great deal for their clubs and national team. We (Casemiro, Kroos and Modric) have done a lot for Madrid. I prefer for others to give their opinion as to which of the two midfields is the best”.

Benzema and Ballon d’Or “There are various candidates who have a chance of winning it. I consider Karim to be one of them. He deserves it given the way that he has played this year and also for the way he's performed over the last few years, in which he has been at a very high level. What's more, he has won a trophy with France and that’s important when it comes to the votes in this award. I hope that he wins it because I believe that he deserves it”.

Biennial World Cup “I can't see the sense in holding the World Cup every two years. It’s special because it takes place every four years and everyone really looks forward to it. They haven't really asked the players or coaches. It doesn't make any sense and I don't know what’ll happen”.
