Kai Havertz is having a funny career at Chelsea so far. Still struggling to convince with consistent performances over the course of a season, he’s already played a key role in two massive trophies for us with goals in two European finals.
After he scored the extra time penalty to win Chelsea the Club World Cup final on Saturday, his “King Kai” nickname was being bandied around everywhere, but the bashful Aachen native wasn’t going to admit he liked it.
“Those who know me know that I would never call myself that,” he said modestly when asked about the nickname in an interview with Sport1 in his native Germany.
“Most people call me Kai. The King comes more from the press,” he explained.
If you keep scoring in important finals Kai, we’re afraid you’re going to keep hearing it… Fans don’t take long to think up a nickname, and once they’ve given you one, it’s pretty difficult to shake it off.
Long live King Kai.
