AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli was forced to make two changes during the second half of the 0-0 draw against Newcastle United because of injury concerns.

According to the latest from MilanNews, there is a small sigh of relief regarding Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s physical condition. The English midfielder went down after beating Tonali to the byline and crossing, but he was seen mouthing ‘just cramp’ and this has now been confirmed.

It is a different story for Mike Maignan though, who dropped to the floor away from the ball in pain, and he had to make way for Marco Sportiello 16 minutes from the end. The French goalkeeper was replaced due to a strain in his left flexor, and further evaluations will follow.

Stefano Pioli was asked about the condition of both players during an interview with Sky after the game, and he had a more optimistic outlook on Maignan.

“Maignan felt a little something, he says little and I trust him. Loftus-Cheek just a fatigue, a cramp. It’s clear that we play a lot, we play too much and the players who have played for the national team raise the risk of injuries,” he said (via MilanNews).
