Mike Maignan was formerly one of the best goalkeepers in Europe, but at present, the AC Milan shotstopper is not even one of the best in Serie A, a real downsurge in form.

Since joining from Lille, Maignan’s career has only really gone up, and when winning the Scudetto, Milan looked to have a star on their hands between the sticks. However, in the years that passed, his consistency has become a problem.

There have always been holes in his game, for example, last season the goalkeeper seemingly had a massive problem when facing penalties, a problem which still exists to this day. However, the level of mistakes he is making this season, and the actual seriousness of each is becoming a much bigger issue.

As Milan News writes, he is not in ‘an easy moment’, and whilst this could be also attached to the rest of the team, the goalkeeper’s drop has been noticeably more substantial than others. Even since Sergio Conceicao’s arrival, the Frenchman has begun to struggle more again, which creates more worry about the situation.

Cagliari, Como, Feyenoord, Torino and this weekend, Lazio. Mistakes in each game, that have had huge significance on the team’s season and hopes, and a solution needs to be found soon.

On the verge of signing a new deal, the goalkeeper’s value is dropping quickly with these mistakes, so perhaps the Diavolo would be better holding off for now.
