AC Milan are heading towards a very forgettable season and it could prompt some changes at managerial level, with a new sporting director expected to arrive.
As MilanNews report, the double blow of losing against Torino while Juventus beat Cagliari means that fourth place is now eight points away. A pace of over two points per game will be needed to even have a chance of a top four finish, and this Milan side does not seem capable of doing that.
We are entering a crucial week in the sense that games against rivals for the Champions League spots await, starting with Bologna on Thursday and then Lazio on Sunday. Meanwhile, there is a Coppa Italia semi-final on the horizon which could become a target to salvage a forgettable campaign.
The next few weeks will also be the decisive ones in terms of choosing a new sporting director, and the current feeling is that a call will be made in March, even if a firm decision has not been reached yet and there are several candidates.
The chances of Fabio Paratici arriving seem to be slightly down, while Andrea Berta’s name remains alive, as do those of Igli Tare and François Modesto, albeit in the second row. Surprise names that have not yet emerged cannot be ruled out, as we reported last week.
The arrival of the new sporting director should lead to a return of Geoffrey Moncada in the role of head of scouting with a direct and trusting relationship with the director. Deep reflections will also be made on the work of Jovan Kirovski as head of Milan Futuro, who are really struggling.
