AC Milan will make one notable change during the January transfer window while rivals continue to strengthen their squad, forcing Stefano Pioli to make virtue of necessity again.

MilanNews writes that Pietro Pellegri leaving and Marko Lazetic arriving might be everything for Milan’s January transfer window, although Andrea Conti has left but he was way outside the club’s plans anyway. Some substantial reinforcement would have been nice, because the Rossoneri have gone through a start of 2022 in total emergency in defence and midfield.

It might be that in the final days of the window a young centre-back arrives but that is the very maximum, while Juventus, Inter and Roma have made moves that clearly make them better and the Rossoneri did not.

Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara could not make a big splash because Elliott Management remain tight on finances, while head coach Stefano Pioli has never looked for excuses neither about injuries nor about immobility on the market.

Instead, he continues in his own way training the players he does have at his disposal and continuing to make a virtue of necessity when things get tough from a selection point of view. The derby against Inter after the break will say a lot about where the season is heading: a win reignites the title push, whereas a defeat throws top four into jeopardy.
