AC Milan are expected to keep Matteo Gabbia at the club until the January window at least as one of their defensive targets has now faded, a report claims.

According to the latest from MilanNews, Gabbia will remain with the Rossoneri at least until the winter transfer window. The main club that have been pushing to sign him has been Marco Giampaolo’s Sampdoria who wanted him on a loan, but there has been a change of mind.

Gabbia is considered useful to Stefano Pioli in terms of offering depth for the centre-back department in the absence of a new signing after Alessio Romagnoli’s exit, but he is also an academy graduate which is valuable for the composition of the UEFA squad lists.

In the meantime, the hunt for a new central defender continues. The management are looking for a Fikayo Tomori-style operation (loan with option), but Abdou Diallo of PSG is not part of the list of targets.
