AC Milan are looking to strengthen their midfield in the summer mercato, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic has approved of a target that the Rossoneri may pursue – he currently plays for one of the Swede’s former clubs.

The main offsets of the window will be a new central defender and a new No.9, two positions which have needed new investment in recent years, and this summer will be the time for it. However, there is also a desire to strengthen Milan’s midfield.

Additionally, given that Ismael Bennacer is a concrete target for some Saudi Pro League clubs, and there is a growing chance that he could leave, it adds to the need for reinforcement in the position. Even if he stays, his consistent injuries are an important factor that must be considered by the Rossoneri’s management.

There is also a need to add more defensive coverage to the ranks. Ismael Bennacer is the only out-and-out ‘defensive-minded’ midfielder, and even then, he attacks frequently, and this means there is extra coverage needed in the position.

Milan News writes that Milan will try to invest in a new holding midfielder this summer – it could be Sofyan Amrabat. The Moroccan midfielder will not be bought by Manchester United, and staying in Florence is not a guarantee, so a move to Milan could be a feasible option.

In December 2022, Ibrahimovic offered some praise to the midfielder, and given he has a large say in the club’s transfers, this could be significant in their decision.

‘Who do I like in Serie A? Kvaratskhelia is doing very well. Then I really like Fiorentina’s Amrabat, strong.”
