Francesco Camarda will miss Milan Futuro’s relegation play-off after a mistake by the club, but it could be an opportunity for him to show his qualities with the first team.
Milan Futuro will be up against SPAL in the relegation play-off, starting at home on May 10th and then playing the decisive away leg on May 17th. However, due to the Serie C regulations, Francesco Camarda won’t be at Massimo Oddo’s disposal.
In fact, he hasn’t played enough games for the Futuro to be called up, with the regulations requiring a minimum of 25 appearances (or 12 if the player joined in January). Camarda ended the season with 18 appearances, 20 if you count the cup, so not enough.
As highlighted by MilanNews, although Milan obviously didn’t expect there to be a relegation play-off, it’s still disastrous management as the Futuro really could have used Camarda in these games. Especially when you consider he was with the first team 16 times, but only featured 13 times.
From mid-November to mid-February, as the report continues, he was with the Futuro only twice. He started playing more in the last 11 games, when Sergio Conceicao made it clear that he would rely on Tammy Abraham, Luka Jovic and Santiago Gimenez instead. By then, however, it was too late.
The only ‘positive’ thing to take from this, as the report concludes, is the fact that Camarda could now get the chance with the first team instead. Not in the Coppa Italia final, of course, but perhaps in the league as the final games won’t matter too much.
He’s still waiting on his first goal for the first team and getting it before the season ends would be a huge confidence boost.
