After just eight MLS first-teams participated in the U.S. Open Cup in 2024, the 2025 campaign will see an increase with 16 total MLS first-teams, and 10 MLS Next Pro teams.

Meanwhile, MLS has reduced their entries in the Leagues Cup to just 18 teams, matching Liga MX with that tally. The teams that finished in the top-nine from each conference in the 2024 season have qualified for the 2025 edition of the tournament.

As usual, all three Canadian clubs will compete in the Canadian Championship.
