Here’s how today’s fixtures panned out…

Nashville v Dallas

Scorers: Mukhtar 5′, 33′, Shaffelburg 26′, Romney 72′

Nashville have struggled at home this season but experienced few problems in seeing off Dallas at GEODIS Park.

The hosts got off to the perfect start with Hany Mukhtar giving them an early lead. It was a stunning strike by the German as he rifled home from an incredibly tight angle.

And they doubled their advantage through Jacob Shaffelburg midway through the first half, as the Canada international raced onto a loose ball to lash home a debut goal.

It got even better for the hosts when Mukhtar notched his second with a delightful free-kick.

A mazy run from Tennessee side’s talisman almost led to a fourth but CJ Sapong was inches away from meeting Randall Leal’s centre.

Mukhtar passed up a glorious opportunity to complete a hat-trick when he fired off the crossbar from close range after another testing cross from Leal.

The fourth goal did arrive when Dave Romney headed home from a superb corner delivery by Daniel Lovitz.

Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes endured a difficult night, but produced a fine save to deny Mukhtar from claiming the match ball.

The Texans remain third in the West despite the defeat, while Nashville move up to sixth and into the play-off positions.

Charlotte v Orlando City

Scorers: Gaines 66′; Kara 62′, Akindele 89′

Tesho Akindele hit a late winner to give Orlando a scarcely deserved win at Charlotte.

In a first half of few chances, the hosts came closest to scoring with Kerwin Vargas stinging the gloves of Orlando goalkeeper Pedro Gallese on the half-hour mark.

Charlotte were having the better of proceedings, but Orlando hit the front just after the hour-mark through Ercan Kara after he was slipped through by Facundo Torres.

That drew a quick response from the hosts, however, with substitute Kamil Jóźwiak whipping in a fabulous cross for McKinze Gaines to nod home for his MLS goal.

The game burst into life after that, and Mauricio Pereyra almost gave Orlando the lead again as his free-kick forced an excellent save from Kristijan Kahlina.

The decisive moment in the 89th minute when Akindele finished off a devastating counter-attack at the second attempt.

Brandt Bronico had a chance to earn a point at the death for Charlotte but he sent his shot over.

Orlando move up to fifth in the East, while Charlotte lie in 10th.

Chicago Fire v New York City FC

Scorers: Pereira 16′, Rodríguez 46′

New York City made light work of struggling Chicago Fire, with a stunning strike from Gabriel Pereira setting them on their way to victory.

The visitors made the breakthrough thanks to a vicious effort from distance from Pereira that left Chelsea-bound Gabriel Slonina grasping at thin air.

And Brazilian playmaker Pereira had a controversial role in his side’s second goal moments into the second half.

It seemed clear that the NYCFC man had tripped Rafael Czichos before Santiago Rodríguez fired home, but VAR declined to draw attention to the incident.

Thiago Martins came close to adding a third for the The Pigeons when his header came back off the upright with just under half an hour to play.

Jhon Durán almost pulled one back for the Fire in stoppage time but his header bounced off the underside of the crossbar and away to safety.

The win moves third-placed NYCFC to within six points of Eastern leaders Philadelphia Union, while Chicago languish in 12th.
