Teenage dreams so hard to beat

We doubt Cade Cowell will be getting much sleep tonight, but if he does he’ll have the above strike playing on repeat in his dreams.

The 18-year-old replaced Benjamin Kikanović with just over 20 minutes to go and his side tied 1-1 with Supporters’ Shield leaders LAFC.

It’s safe to say he made the most of the opportunity, blasting home a volley from Tommy Thompson’s cross to give the Quakes a win that might just provoke a hitherto unlikely charge for a play-off spot.

It was just his second goal of the season, but it was certainly one to remember.

We imagine Luchi Gonzalez, who will take over as head coach of the Californian side next season, was paying attention as well!

LAFC clinch play-off berth in record time

They won’t be happy with the defeat, of course, but LAFC can take comfort in the fact that they are the first team to reach the post-season.

Not only that, but Steve Cherundolo’s charges have done so after just 25 games. That equals the record they set in 2019.

And with Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini still finding their feet, we expect the Black and Gold will fancy their chances of landing their first-ever MLS Cup.

Philadelphia’s Carranza inflicts further misery on DC United

While it’s hard to see how things could get any worse for DC United this season, at least they won’t have to face Julián Carranza again.

The Philadelphia Union striker notched a second-half hat-trick as his racked up a 6-0 win on the road.

It was the second time this year that the 22-year-old Argentine collected the match ball against the same opponents.

“Julián’s confident and he’s still young. He’s got a lot of room to improve and grow,” Union head coach Jim Curtin after the match.

“We’re just seeing the start of something special for Julián Carranza. I think he can be elite.”

We think DC have seen quite enough of him for now!

Talk about last-minute

Whatever lingering hopes Houston Dynamo had of making the play-offs seemed to be disappearing as they trailed Colorado Rapids deep into stoppage time.

But with the clock just about to pass the minimum of five minutes additional time, Sebastián Ferreira struck to break the 10-man Rapids’ resistance.

Dynamo will hope the striker’s last-gasp intervention proves a turning point in their season.
