MLS duo emerge as transfer destinations for Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne | OneFootball

Kevin De Bruyne may not be moving to Saudi Arabia this summer, but talk around an exit from Manchester City in the not too distant future continues to roll in.

The Belgian has been consistently linked with ambitious Saudi Arabian interest over the course of the ongoing summer transfer window, with little to no interest developing into concrete proposals sent in the direction of Manchester City.

The feeling around the game was that Manchester City would not stand in the way of De Bruyne’s aims, should he showed an interest in moving to the Middle-East, but would be eyeing a transfer fee in the region of £100 million to sell the 33-year-old.

However, any concerns from City supporters over the future of De Bruyne have now passed, after Pep Guardiola confirmed during a recent press conference in the United States that the creative midfielder would not be leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer.

But while Saudi Arabia may not be De Bruyne’s next challenge in professional football, the prospect of a new adventure outside of the European game is not entirely beyond the realms of possibility, as per a new report.

According to the information of GIVEMESPORT, City Football Group’s New York City FC could emerge as a potential destination for Kevin De Bruyne to consider next year, with the upcoming campaign expected to be his last on Manchester City’s books.

It is claimed that a move to MLS remains an option for the Belgium and could have more appeal to his family than Saudi Arabia, but New York may not be the only solution to his American ambitions.

The report goes on to point out that the chance to compete in San Diego FC’s inaugural MLS campaign could appeal to him as a fresh challenge, with the club being ‘very serious’ about making statement signings before getting their first season underway in 2025.

Manchester City’s sister club in New York has long been tipped to be a destination for some of the game’s biggest names, including the potential for Pep Guardiola to join the club beyond his time at the Etihad Stadium.

With the City Football Group having large ambitions for their Major League Soccer franchise, including the construction of a new state-of-the-art stadium in the area, the appointment and signings of global superstars remains a key focus.

Officials of City Football Group’s NYCFC reached an agreement in November 2022 to build a new 25,000-seat stadium for club – set to be completed by 2027 – with an estimated construction cost of $780 million.
