Miralem Pjanić says that Lionel Messi is the best free-kick taker in the world but has revealed that Messi almost never practices his craft.

Pjanić is a fantastic free-kick taker in his own right, having been Juventus’ number one option and scoring 19 free-kick goals in Serie A between his time at Juve and Roma.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Pjanić made the extraordinary claim about his former Barça team-mate.

“Messi… I’ve practised free-kicks twice a week for 20-30 minutes a day, for my entire life.

“Maybe he practices once or twice a year, and that’s how he takes them!”

Pjanić is now spending his season on loan at Turkish Süper Lig side Beşiktaş, though his play has been plagued by an incessant thigh injury.
