Minnesota United have signed defender Bakaye Dibassy to a one-year contract extension with a club option.

The player is currently in his third season with the Loons after joining in 2020 from Ligue 2 side Amiens SC. Dibassy made an immediate impact in Minnesota’s backline upon arrival, scoring two goals in the team’s 2020 MLS Cup playoffs run.

The defender seems to be back to his goal scoring ways this season, finding the back of the net in the 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids in April.

Overall, he’s managed 58 appearances for the team. Internationally, the player holds four senior caps with the Mali national team.

With Dibassy’s help, Minnesota United currently sit in third on the Western Conference table with 34 points in 22 games and a record of 10W-8L-4D. The team returns to action on Saturday when hosting the Portland Timbers at Allianz Field.
