Minnesota United have claimed Canadian international defender Doneil Henry off waivers.

The player last featured for LAFC, recording five appearances throughout the 2022 Major League Soccer campaign before being released from the roster. Henry has also seen time with Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps, amassing six goals and four assists in 114 overall games.

He’s also played abroad, playing for Korean side Suwon Samsung Bluewings, the Premier League’s West Ham and Danish top flight team AC Horsens.

Internationally, the defender has made 44 appearances for the Canadian men’s national team since his senior debut on August 15, 2012. Despite playing an integral role in the team’s historic Concacaf qualifying campaign, he narrowly missed out on the 26-player World Cup roster due to injury.

He now joins Les Rouges teammate Dayne St. Clair at Minnesota United. Henry also stands as MNUFC's second backline addition this offseason after Zarek Valentin.

Head coach Adrian Heath is looking to strengthen the roster after failing to make an impact during the 2022 MLS postseason. Despite concluding the regular season in sixth place on the Eastern Conference table with 48 points in 34 games, the Loons lost their first playoff match against FC Dallas.

The team managed a 1-1 draw, before losing 5-4 in penalties.

Minnesota United has failed to win a major trophy since entering the league in 2017.
