Mind the Gap the Celtic message as rampant Hoops go 16 clear

We witnessed a terrific display at Celtic Park this afternoon against Dundee United as we stretched our lead at the top to a massive 16 points, for 24 hours at least. Our skipper Callum McGregor fired us into the lead in 23 minutes after advancing into the Dundee United penalty area, evading several defenders before tucking home a fine shot for his eighth goal of the campaign.

Celtic were now in complete control and could have increased our lead only for the woodwork and a fine stop by Jack Walton denying us a two goal cushion. That all important second goal did arrive in the 35th minute when the lively Jota curled home a lovely finish leaving Walton with no chance. He certainly enjoyed the celebrations for his first goal at Celtic Park since returning to the club.

The Bhoys then controlled the game and didn’t look in any danger of conceding, if anything they looked like increasing the lead. That third goal duly arrived eight minutes from time when Adam Idah thumped home a thunderous finish to give the game a scoreline it deserved and as predicted on The Celtic Star last night in the match preview.

It will be pleasing for Brendan Rodgers to witness such a controlled and clinical display especially with the likes of Alistair Johnston, Arne Engels, Daizen Meada, and Nicolas Kuhn listed among the substitutes with Tuesday’s trip to Munich in mind.

Three cracking goals, a clean sheet, and 16 points clear. A great day all round I’d say. Bayern played the same team as started at Celtic Park against Leverkusen this afternoon and played out a goalless draw.

Now all eyes are on Munich and Celtic looking to achieve a minor miracle by winning on German soil.
