Jose Mourinho launches mind games ahead of Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s visit to Chelsea, as reported by Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho has insisted that the pressure of expectations is on his former employers after having spent heavily in the summer window.

Tottenham entered the gameweek at the top of the table, although we slipped to second after Liverpool drew with Brighton earlier today.

Given our current standing, talks of a title have been doing the rounds for quite some time now. Jose, though, in typical fashion, has transferred the pressure on Frank Lampard & co. insisting that there will be much bigger expectations of him and Chelsea after the way they spent in the summer. “I was at clubs which were, let’s say, “champions in the market” because of the investment. I had to deal with that pressure. So now it’s not for me to deal with that pressure. Put a little bit of pressure on them. Leave us in peace.”

Chelsea splashed the cash in the summer, spending £230m to strengthen the squad significantly. Naturally, considering such a huge outlay, expectations will also have risen a great deal.

Lampard, though, shrugged off Jose’s comments, claiming that hard work, not transfer budget, brings success. (h/t Daily Mail)

“The only thing that will get you success is hard work. The pressures are huge anyway. The pressures at Tottenham will be big, because Jose built a fantastic squad and has incredible players.”
