Millwall have become the first club to make a bid for Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass, a report from The Sheffield Star has revealed.

Windass enjoyed an impressive campaign for Wednesday last season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 41 Championship appearances.

That however, was not enough to prevent the Owls suffer relegation to League One for next season, something which has seemingly led to interest in Windass.

It was reported by Sky Sports Transfer Centre on Friday (18/06, 10:02) that Millwall are among the clubs interested in the 27-year-old, and it now seems as though the Lions have made their move.

According to this latest update, Millwall have now made the first bid for Windass, although it remains to be seen whether that will be accepted by Wednesday.

It is thought that the Owls will be holding out for a big money deal for the attacker, who has one year remaining on his current contract at Hillsborough.

Are these 20 facts about Millwall's five most expensive signings true or false?

Birmingham are also said to have enquired about Windass’ availability, while Fulham, QPR and Preston have also been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old.

The Verdict

It seems as though this one could be set to run for quite some time to me.

The level of interest there is in Windass, as well as his impressive record in the Championship, means you would imagine others clubs could be tempted to respond to this bid by Millwall with offers of their own.

Indeed, that is something that Wednesday ought to be aware of, and they may well be confident of engineering a bidding war for Windass as a result of that.

With that in mind, it would be a surprise if the Owls were to simply accept this first bid from Millwall, given they do need to try and recoup as much as they possibly can from deals such as this from a financial perspective.
