Millwall‘s attempts to sign Hibernian striker Kevin Nisbet for a club-record fee have failed, with the 25-year-old turning down a switch to the Championship play-off chasers, according to Rich Cawley of the South London Press.

The Lions were confident of landing the 10-cap Scotland international – who has scored seven times in six league matches this season for Hibs following his return from a serious knee injury – after finally seeing a bid accepted for his services worth in the region of £2.4 million including add-ons.

An initial fee of around £2 million would have eclipsed the previous record transfer for Millwall, which was the £1.8 million spent to bring Zian Flemming to South Bermondsey in 2022.

But despite Nisbet travelling to the capital of England for a medical with Gary Rowett’s side, he has now opted to pull out of the deal himself, leaving his future at Easter Road in limbo.

MILLWALL WERE FOUNDED IN 1884

It is the latest setback for Millwall in their pursuit for a new striker to compete with Tom Bradshaw, having seen an offer turned down earlier in the month for QPR hitman Lyndon Dykes.

The Verdict

Considering many were expecting Nisbet to be a Millwall player by the end of the week, it is a surprise that he has now opted against the move.

A move to the Championship could have been a good platform for his career, but it would have been a gamble for the Lions considering the perceived difference of quality between England’s second tier and the Scottish Premiership.

One potential explanation for it could be that another club have come in for Nisbet – he was clearly keen initially which is why he headed to London to undertake a medical.

What we do know is though that Millwall clearly have the funds to spend on a goalscoring number nine before Tuesday’s deadline – now though it is a race against time to find the right player.
