Kevin Nisbet is travelling to London to undergo a medical ahead of a move from Hibernian to Millwall according to the Daily Record.

The Lions are on the look-out for a new striker following the departure of Benik Afobe this month, and Nisbet hit a purple patch ahead of the January transfer window that may well go on to secure him a move to the Championship.

The 25-year-old could become Millwall’s club record signing with the Daily Record revealing that a fee of up to £2.5 million has been agreed.

Tom Bradshaw has led the line impressively this season for the Lions, while their main goal threat has been summer signing Zian Flemming.

The attacking midfielder has already reached double figures for the club, and adding a striker in the form of Nisbet should make Millwall a more menacing proposition on the whole.

It would seem that Millwall have significantly increased their bid to sign Nisbet in the last few days, as per the Daily Record, after an initial offer was rejected, showing the board and the recruitment team’s faith in Gary Rowett.

The financial advantage that newly relegated clubs have in the second tier has made it difficult for the Lions in recent years, but a top six finish does feel like a realistic medium to long term goal.

REAL FAKE

The one concern with this move, and particularly with a club record fee potentially changing hands, is that the first spell of prolific goalscoring of Nisbet’s career in the Scottish Premiership has come in the first half of this season.

Therefore, without historical evidence, it is hard to bank on Nisbet reproducing that kind of form for Millwall, having never done it previously in Scotland.

Max Watters was prolific for half a season at Crawley Town in 2020/21 and has struggled since moving to Cardiff City, whereas the Lions will feel like they overpaid for Jon Dadi Bodvarsson from Reading in the summer of 2019.

Nisbet looks like a more well rounded striker than those two examples, but the price tag could affect him mentally if he does not start well at the club.
