In a recent interview with Football Insider, former Manchester City full-back Danny Mills urged Tottenham Hotspur to extend Heung-min Son’s contract. Mills said, “He’s an exceptional player.

“When you go back to that period when Kane was injured and he was carrying Spurs, scoring all the goals.

“It’s not easy at times when he goes away on international duty and he’s had to deal with issues around national service.

“He’s an outstanding player, he’s absolutely magnificent the way that he plays. He’s so consistent he’s one of the first names on the team sheet.

“His energy levels are superb, his fitness levels are absolutely brilliant. He’s a humble guy, he’s the model pro. Everybody wants a Son in your team for what he offers.

“I’m pretty sure his contract will be sorted very soon because if it’s not Tottenham stand to lose an exceptionally talented player.”

Son’s Incredible Form At The English Capital This Season

The South Korean sensation has been a delight to watch in the Premier League as he has formed a near-telepathic understanding with his teammate Harry Kane at North London. Son is currently second on the goal-scoring charts behind Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin after he registered nine goals in nine appearances in the league so far.

In total, the Spurs star has scored 11 times and grabbed five assists in 14 matches and is currently one of the first names in Jose Mourinho’s teamsheet. The versatile forward has been a consistent performer for the London giants and has done well to average 2.0 shots, 1.8 key passes, 0.9 crosses and 0.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League and the group stages of the UEFA Europa League this season. The 28-year-old has also interchanged possession relatively well with his teammates in the final third after making 80.3% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).

What Are The South Korean Sensation’s Best Attributes?

At the moment, Son is playing some of the best football of his career as he has formed a deadly attacking partnership with assist-king Harry Kane, who has set up nine goals in the league this season. The 89-time South Korean international boasts blistering pace, which allows him to make some dangerous runs from the left flank. He has even converted himself into a lethal finisher in the attacking third.

Son has also got the eye to deliver a decisive pass inside the opposition box and has proven himself to be a match-winner over the past couple of seasons. There are not many weaknesses in his game as such, so Jose Mourinho is right in building his team around him and Kane this season.

Should Mourinho Comply With Mills’ Suggestion By Extending Son’s Contract?

Based on his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thus far, Spurs should comply with Mills’ advice by offering Son a lucrative contract extension as soon as possible. At 28, he has still got plenty of years left in his locker to play at his best, so the North London outfit would be wise to retain his services for the long-run.
