Speaking in a press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Milinkovic-Savic first looked ahead to Serbia’s final World Cup group game against Switzerland.

We know that we have to face the match with Switzerland with the utmost responsibility and seriousness, we don’t look at what was behind, we look ahead. We want to win.  We are looking at each other, we have to start strong and brave, to show them that we have come to win and that we want to qualify for the next stage.  Challenging was the road to Qatar, we wanted to qualify for the World Cup, we knew a lot would depend on the last game.

He reflected on his smart pass in the build-up to Serbia’s third goal against Cameroon.

If it was nil-nil I would have done the same, it wasn’t a lapse of concentration for the third goal, I just wanted the maximum.

Finally, Milinkovic-Savic discussed the state of his ankle and Serbia’s work at their World Cup.

The situation with my ankle is much improved, I’ll be ready for the next game. I don’t think we can promise anything, because every player who comes to the national team wants to give his best. I just hope that luck is on our side.  The midfield is the heart of the team, we try to do our best, against Brazil it didn’t go well, against Cameroon it went much better and now against Switzerland we have to show a high level, a lot of desire and do the job well.

The 27-year-old Milinkovic-Savic has been a key figure for Lazio this season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 20 appearances across Serie A and the Europa League.
