Milano Municipality Councilor Asks Inter Milan & AC Milan To Reconsider New Stadium Plans: “San Siro The Ideal Location” | OneFootball

Giancarlo Tancredi, the Councilor for Urban Regeneration in the Municipality of Milano, explains why San Siro remains the ideal region for Inter Milan and AC Milan to build a new stadium.

In 2019, the two Serie A giants started working on a shared project to rebuild the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.

However, their plans were hindered by a host of bureaucratic hurdles. The local authorities eventually placed a constraint preventing the demolition of the San Siro Stadium due to its cultural and historic significance.

Therefore, the two clubs decided to part ways and pursue new projects in different areas outside the city. Inter are laying the groundwork for a new stadium in Rozzano while Milan identified the San Donato region as their new home.

Nevertheless, the municipality of Malino is still hoping to keep the two clubs within the city walls.

Yesterday, Milano Mayor Giuseppe Sala said he’ll invite the two clubs for further discussions. He also claimed that leaving the city would be a grave mistake on their part.

The Councilor for Urban Regeneration in the Municipality has now echoed Sala’s statements. He argues that the San Siro area remains the ideal option from a logistic standpoint.

“The constraint complicates the situation because there would be two large stadiums in the same area,” explained Tancredi in his interview with Il Giorno-Milano via FcInter1908.

“But a lot depends on what we can do in the Meazza in case the constraint is confirmed.

“Of course, it is such a large venue that not all functions can be suitable and it is a very demanding investment. It would be very difficult to use it and this would damage the Municipality.

“For this reason, we decided to appeal to the TAR. The Municipality’s position has never changed. We believe that San Siro is an ideal area to build a new stadium, in line with contemporary standards.”

“The two areas [San Donato and Rozzano], although close to Milano, do not have better characteristics than the San Siro area.

“On the contrary, from an urban planning and accessibility point of view, those two areas present many problems.

“So we ask the two clubs to reflect on the situation.”
