Salernitana are waiting to welcome Milan defender Marco Pellegrino on loan but an ongoing battle with FIFA has blocked the deal for now.
MilanNews.it details how there’s an agreement in place for the 21-year-old Argentinian defender to join Salernitana on a six-month loan deal from the Rossoneri, but FIFA regulations are currently blocking the transfer.
The reason is because Pellegrino played with Club Atlético Platense until the end of July last year, rather than the usual August, and therefore he’s considered to have already played for two clubs in the 2023-24 season, having featured for Milan in November.
Milan’s lawyers are in constant contact with FIFA, who have so far resisted agreeing an exemption with Pellegrino. The FIGC and AFA – the Italian and Argentinian football federations – have both also been in contact with the world governing body.
The 21-year-old defender and Salernitana are now left waiting to see if FIFA will change their minds and allow the transfer to go ahead.
