Milan are again being linked with a push for USMNT defensive midfielder Johnny Cardoso, but Real Betis want more than €20m.
The Rossoneri had already shown an approach for him last month, facing competition from Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.
He is seen as an alternative to first choice, AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who is going to cost around €25m.
However, according to COPE, the €20m proposal sent to Real Betis for him is not going to be enough and that wipes out the potential advantage of going for the American instead.
The asking price is closer to €30m and for that fee Milan would be more likely to stick with Fofana.
Cardoso will turn 23 next month, born in the USA and moving to Brazil at an early age, who only made the transfer to Real Betis from Internacional for €6m in January 2024.
The Italians also received a boost this week in the race for Fofana, as their main competition in the bidding war was West Ham United, who have seemingly secured Guido Rodriguez – also from Real Betis.
