Milan stars Rafael Leao and Emerson Royal are among the long list of high-profile footballers to come out in support of Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr., who did not win the Ballon d’Or on Monday night, despite being tipped to do so for several months beforehand.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or was awarded to Rodri on Monday evening, which led the entire Real Madrid delegation to boycott the ceremony in Paris.

There was no Florentino Perez, no Carlo Ancelotti, no Jude Bellingham and no Dani Carvajal, even though Madrid won Club of the Year, Ancelotti the Coach of the Year and the fact that the aforementioned players finished in the top four for the main award.

Milan stars stand with Vinicius Jr after Ballon d’Or snub

Countless football figures past and present have come out in support of Vinicius Jr after his second-place finish at the Ballon d’Or, including plenty of Brazil national team stars, and several from Serie A.

Emerson Royal is among the Brazilians in Serie A to send a message of support to his wounded international teammate.

“The no.1 in the world is you,” the Rossoneri full-back wrote on an Instagram story.

Rafael Leao also made his feelings clear, although his message relied on an emoji and a set of ellipses to get his point across.
