Milan star Christian Pulisic has moved up the USA national team goalscoring rankings after his strike off the bench in a 1-1 draw with New Zealand in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Pulisic becomes USA’s fifth highest goalscorer of all time

The 25-year-old is now his nation’s fifth highest goalscorer of all time with a tally of 31 goals from 73 caps. He is currently averaging a goal every 2.35 matches for his national team.

His strike against New Zealand took him past former Fulham forward Brian McBride in the all-time USMNT goalscoring charts. Only four players, Eric Wynalda, Jozy Altidore, Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, stand in front of Pulisic.

Donovan and Dempsey share the all-time USA goalscoring record with 57 each. The Milan man needs 26 goals from the remainder of his international career to catch them.

Three more international goals will bring him level with Wynalda on 34.

Interestingly, Pulisic has a considerably better goals-per-game ratio for his nation compared to his record at club level. He is now up to 31 goals from 73 international outings, but has 61 goals from 325 appearances in all competitions across his career with Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Milan.
