Milan are struggling to pull off a deal for Youssouf Fofana and have identified Johnny Cardoso and Sofyan Amrabat as viable alternatives, reports detail.
The Rossoneri have been hoping to sign the Monaco midfielder for weeks now and have already agreed personal terms with the player but have been unable to find a deal with the Ligue 1 club. Atletico Madrid and Manchester United have now emerged, complicating matters.
Milan are keen to pick up a new physical midfielder to add some defensive balance to the squad and are now looking around for alternatives, wanting to ensure Paulo Fonseca has the right reinforcements to try and close the gap to Inter.
Page six of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport details how Milan have identified Real Betis’ Johnny Cardoso as an interesting option to bolster their midfield this summer, should they fail to pull off a deal for Fofana. The 22-year-old American also holds an EU passport, beneficial for registration reasons.
Another idea for the Rossoneri is Amrabat, who has returned to Fiorentina after his loan spell with Manchester United. The Premier League giants aren’t willing to activate his buy option but would be open to a deal for a lower price.
