Milan Primavera’s hope of reaching the play-off stages of the UEFA Youth League were ended as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Red Star on Wednesday afternoon.

Milan came into the game with five points from their opening five games, with the most recent result being a narrow win against Slovan Bratislava (second-bottom of the table) that they had to work very hard for.

Red Star took the lead right at the end of the first half when Adam Bakoune allowed Jovanovic to get to the byline and square for Kostov to tap home and make it 0-1.

They then turned a one-goal lead into a three-goal advantage with two quick fire goals either side of the hour mark, the first coming from the captain Sljivic who got the better of Longoni.

Jovanovic then won a penalty and dusted himself off to take it and score as the afternoon went from bad to worse for Federico Guidi’s side. He would be sent off not long after for a second yellow card.

Tommaso Mancioppi scored a long-range strike inside the final 10 minutes to briefly keep the comeback hopes alive, then Perera was given a straight red for kicking out inside the box, making it 10 men each and killing the game off.

The result means that the Rossoneri close on 28th place in the table and they have therefore not made the play-offs, given that in the Youth League there are only six games instead of eight in the first phase.
