Theo Hernandez and Milan are likely headed for a partying of the ways, although the timing and the manner remain to be determined. The fullback was recently spotted having coffee with Paolo Maldini, the Rossoneri legend and former exec who brought him to Serie A and under whom he had his best years.
According to Calciomercato, the team’s priority at the moment is to avoid a Bosman departure. The talks about extending his contract, which runs out in 2026, are dead in the water. At the same time, there’s a chance the fullback wants to play out the final year of his deal to then flee on a free.
Milan wish to dodge such a scenario and would be ready to accept relatively low offers for Theo Hernandez. A €25/30M bid could be enough to pry away the fullback in the summer. The Rossoneri would have more leverage if the parties closed the gap and reached an agreement on his renewal, but his permanence wouldn’t be certain in that case either.
The Frenchman was attached to Bayern Munich to replace Alphonso Davies, but he re-upped with them after intense speculations about a Real Madrid switch. Como reportedly tabled a €40M proposal in January, but the deal didn’t gain steam. The most likely replacement continues to be Club Brugge’s Maxim De Cuyper.
The relationship has run its course, and the team’s stance is fair, but there could still be a U-turn under a different exec and coach. He’ll have suitors, but they might not be at the level he considers high enough.
