Tijjani Reijnders is being tracked by major clubs, for instance, Manchester City and Barcelona, but Milan are doing their homework early and want to repel any threat with a contract extension. The midfielder is already tied to them until 2028.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via OneFootball), the discussions to add more years to his deal are underway. The intention is mutual. The Rossoneri are ready to raise the wages of the Dutchman from €1.8M to €3M annually.

Milan acquired Reijnders from AZ Alkmaar in July 2023. He quickly became a staple of their formation, ever rarely missing games. He has racked up 61 appearances already, scoring 6 times and providing 6 assists. The arrival of Paulo Fonseca didn’t change his status, even though the new coach tried to tinker with his role.

The 26-year-old will have to sit out Tuesday’s clash with Napoli due to a suspension since Milan didn’t play against Bologna over the weekend. He was controversially sent off versus Udinese for denying a goal-scoring opportunity with a slight foul. The Rossoneri might start both Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Yunus Musah at the same time against the Azzurri.

Our Take on Milan and Reijnders

It’s a layup as he’s indispensable, he’s a fine all-around contributor, his performances have been serviceable, and the numbers are still relatively low. The next step for him is to become a more consistent scorer while trailing the action. Perhaps the brace in the recent Champions League match will get him going for good in that regard.
