Following Thursday’s home defeat to Roma in the Europa League, Milan failed to get back to winning ways this afternoon as they were held by Sassuolo to a 3-3 draw.
Right from the start both teams came out firing as the Neroverdi quickly surged ahead with a two-goal lead within the opening ten minutes. Milan’s Rafael Leao narrowed the gap with a sensational bit of skill in the 20th minute to cut the host’s lead to 2-1 at the break.
However, Sassuolo regained the two-goal advantage just after halftime when Armand Lauriente scored his second goal in the 53rd minute—though, Stefano Pioli’s side responded immediately through Luka Jovic. With the score 3-2 and Milan destined for defeat, substitute Noah Okafor
Sassuolo increased their lead to two just after the break when Lauriente added another, but Luka Jovic responded almost immediately to make the scoreline 3-2. Headed towards defeat, attacker Noah Okafor scored the equaliser from a corner just moments after he replaced midfielder Yacine Adli—-eventually earning his side a late point.
Although Milan dominated possession (67% to 33%), they wasted several opportunities to earn all three points and subsequently enter Thursday’s return leg at the Stadio Olimpico on a two-game winless streak.
