MILAN FUTURO FIGHT BUT LOSE 3-2 TO GUBBIO

Article image:MILAN FUTURO FIGHT BUT LOSE 3-2 TO GUBBIO

Despite a brace from Camarda (both goals from the penalty spot), Milan Futuro fell to a 3-2 defeat to Gubbio on matchday 37. The match, which was rescheduled from Monday to today following the passing of Pope Francis, didn’t go the way of the Rossoneri, whose three-game winning streak has come to an end. It means that a relegation play-off place is mathematically confirmed for Coach Oddo’s side. The Diavolo, who were forced to chase the game from the early stages, gave themselves a chance late on but were unable to mount a comeback.

It was a lacklustre performance compared to recent outings. After making it 1-1, which briefly gave the match a new outlook, the Rossoneri failed to push on. One positive to take from the evening was Victor Eletu’s professional debut in the second half, with the 20-year-old having previously developed with our Primavera side. There is just one game remaining of the regular season - at home to Vis Pesaro - after which the Rossoneri will be involved in the relegation play-offs (over two legs) to determine the outcome of their debut season.

MATCH REPORT Gubbio made the brighter start and took an eighth-minute lead through Tommasini, who made the most of Fall’s slip and beat the outrushing Nava. The Rossoneri appealed for a foul, but the goal was given. Coach Oddo’s side responded positively, and this led to Ianesi earning a penalty and Camarda stepping up to send Venturi (who kept out a spot-kick from the same player in the reverse fixture) the wrong way in the 21st minute. The Umbrians quickly restored their lead through Ronchi on the half-hour mark, and the scoreline didn’t change before a break.

The second half started in similar fashion, with Di Massimo rising highest and making it 3-1 with his head. Oddo’s side then pushed forward in an attempt to get back into the match, but that left space for Gubbio to counter. Nava made three saves between the 63rd and 74th minutes, keeping Milan Futuro in the match. After a low right-footed strike from Chaka had gone narrowly wide, Omoregbe won another penalty, with Camarda once again converting from twelve yards out. In the closing stages, the Diavolo had two chances to draw level: a cross from Ianesi nearly resulted in an own goal, while Venturi also saved a left-footed effort from Omoregbe. Full-time.
