Milan fans protest against owners: ‘Leave, unworthy’

Milan supporters have made their feelings towards the club ownership and directors clear by placing a banner outside the club’s headquarters, reading: “Everyone leave: Unworthy” following a poor run of results which has put the club’s hopes of finishing in the top four at a major risk.

The last three matches have been particularly poor for the Rossoneri: A 1-1 draw at home against a depleted Feyenoord side knocked them out of the Champions League with a 2-1 aggregate defeat, which was followed by 2-1 defeats against Torino and Bologna in Serie A.

Milan are currently in eighth place in the league table and now require an average of 2.41 points per match if they are to finish the Serie A campaign on 70 points, which has been the benchmark for a top four finish in each of the last three seasons.

Results on the pitch have not been the only issue this season. Questions have also been asked over the club’s senior leadership, particularly those in charge of recruitment.

Paulo Fonseca was hired in the summer and replaced by Sergio Conceicao by the end of December, and now the current Rossoneri coach is also at risk of the sack.

Recruitment of players has also been criticised this season. Like Fonseca, Alvaro Morata was brought in over the summer, but was moved on to Galatasaray before the end of the winter transfer window.

Frustrated by the club’s poor results on and off the pitch, supporters from the Curva Sud have made their feelings known on Friday, unveiling a banner outside Milan’s headquarters in the city centre which reads: “Everyone leave: Unworthy”.

Updates from Milannews.it confirm that the banner has also appeared outside Milanello, the team’s training ground, later on in the evening.
