After being benched for a few games, Rafael Leao returned to the XI and delivered versus Real Madrid. He’s set to start again versus Cagliari. The previous decisions were mostly a motivating tool by Paulo Fonseca. There’s never been any personal problem between the two, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The gaffer is always eager to get the most out of his players, especially the most talented ones. In addition, the winger was more diligent defensively midweek. The boss praised him but urged him to keep going.
“Leao did well, but he can do even better. He has to be even more decisive in the final third.”
Milan are looking to finish well the ongoing cycle of games in Sardinia. They have had a 2.4-point average since the last international break, losing once in five fixtures. Another victory and a sprint before Christmas could allow them to close the gap with the top of the table.
Leao hailed his stay in Serie A during a film festival.
“Italy is the perfect place for me, and Milan is a nice city. I feel at home here thanks to the food, the climate, and the shopping. Everybody from around the world come here during the fashion week. Going to another country helped think in a different way. I’m a man and no longer a boy now. I can improve a lot more still by learning but staying inside my comfort zone.”
Milan will need Leao and their other attackers to be at the top of their game on Saturday as Alvaro Morata will miss the Cagliari match due to a head injury he suffered in training. The early tests ruled out serious problems but he requires further monitoring.
