Milan and Roma will meet again in the coming months to discuss the future of high-performing English striker Tammy Abraham. According to Calciomercato, last season’s runners-up are contemplating signing the former Chelsea center-forward on a permanent basis.

Abraham left the Stadio Olimpico to join Milan on a season-long toward the end of the summer transfer window. Despite arriving as a potential backup option for Alvaro Morata, the 27-year-old has exceeded expectations at the San Siro.

Indeed, Abraham has found the net in all four competitions he featured in since teaming up with Milan last summer. He has tallied eight goals from 29 competitive appearances, including a match-winning brace in a 3-1 Coppa Italia win against his parent club on Wednesday.

His scintillating performance convinced Milan to pursue his permanent arrival. Moreover, the Englishman is willing to commit his future to the Rossoneri. However, his desire will be put to the test, considering he’ll probably have to take a substantial pay cut to facilitate the move.

Milan cannot afford Abraham’s lucrative wages in the region of €6 million net per season. Therefore, they’ll need the player to agree to reduce his salary to get a deal over the line. Santiago Gimenez’s big-money transfer from Feyenoord in January has put an additional squeeze on the wage bill.

Perhaps more importantly, Gimenez should be central to Sergio Conceicao’s Milan project, meaning Abraham would likely have to settle for a backup role. Whether he’d accept such terms remains questionable.
